Resumo: O grupo estuda a história evolutiva de genes e proteínas em diversos organismos com o objetivo de entender e caracterizar a origem e função desses genes, sua estrutura e interações com outros genes. A inferência de novas vias metabólicas a partir de análises comparativas, a caracterização de grandes transições evolutivas e seus efeitos sobre a arquitetura de genes e genomas, bem como a predição da funções de genes pouco conhecidos estão entre as principais aplicações e resultados das análises.
Abstract: The group studies the evolutionary history of genes and proteins in different lineages of organisms, focusing on the origin and identification of novel protein domains and the evolution of genes and genomes in prokaryotes. The objective is to understand and characterize the origin and function of these genes, their structure and interactions with other genes. From this work, the group identifies new enzymes and protein families, propose novel metabolic pathways and identify the effects of these genes over the organisms biology and genome architecture.
