The Graduate Program in Sciences (Human Physiology) was created in 1994 and offers Master’s (MSc) and PhD degrees. Currently 21 faculty members of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics are accredited as supervisors in the program. They develop their scientific research in different and relevant areas, of the physiological sciences, including cellular and molecular physiology, biophysics, renal physiology, cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrinology, gastrointestinal physiology and neurophysiology. All supervisors manage their own fully-equipped laboratories and are granted by national and international research funding agencies.
In its nearly 25 years of existence, the Program has trained more than 600 graduate students. The average annual turnover of students is 24 (Masters and Doctorates) and they come from all regions of Brazil and abroad. The graduate students are recipients of institutional scholarships from different funding agencies in Brazil (Coordination of Superior Level Staff Improvement– CAPES; National Council for Scientific and Technological Development – CNPq and São Paulo Research Foundation – FAPESP). The job market recruits our alumni mainly as scholars and researchers to work in public and private institutions or industry. Our Program maintains a high standard of intellectual and scientific productivity (course of excellence in the CAPES ranking). Given the multidisciplinary and integrative nature of the program, the research areas include, but are not limited to study relevant issues from molecular/cellular level to translational aspects within the (patho) physiology.
