Research interests: Signaling pathways study to reduce the pathology of malaria and tuberculosis
Resumo: Os estudos têm como objetivo geral caracterizar os receptores de sinais de dano celular que estão envolvidos na progressão das formas graves de malária e tuberculose experimentais, visando interferir nestas vias de sinalização a fim de melhorar o prognóstico das doenças. Pretende-se ainda avaliar a importância dos sinais de dano no desenvolvimento da resposta imune durante estas doenças infecciosas. Inicialmente, as moléculas a serem abordadas são o ATP, HMGB1 e as citocinas IL-1a, IL-1b e IL-18, assim como seus respectivos receptores.
Abstract: The aim of the study is to characterize the receptors of cellular damage signals that are involved in the progression of severe forms of experimental malaria and tuberculosis, seeking to interfere in these signaling pathways in order to improve disease outcomes. Another objective is to evaluate the importance of signs of damage in the development of the immune response during these infectious diseases. Initially, the molecules to be addressed are ATP, HMGB1 and cytokines IL-1a, IL-1b and IL-18, as well as their respective receptors.
