The Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the University of São Paulo (ICB-USP) is regarded as one of Brazil’s best institutions of higher education in its area and renowned for the quality of its courses, research and extension activities.
At the undergraduate level, ICB offers two degrees: Bachelor in Biomedical Sciences and Bachelor in Fundamental Health Sciences. ICB has 6 own graduate programs and is responsible for USP’s Biotechnology program and is also part in the Bioinformatics and Neuroscience programs. In research, both basic and translational, ICB is an international reference. Projects with high social impact in human and animal health are developed in its more than 150 laboratories.
ICB is organized in 7 departments and situated across 4 buildings at the São Paulo campus. There are also remote units in Monte Negro, state of Rondônia, dedicated to teaching, research and extension activities; and Acrelândia, state do Acre, with field research laboratories.
ICB has 160 professors and a staff of 266 technicians and administrative personnel. In addition to 167 undergraduate and 501 graduate students, ICB professors also teach courses for more than 4.000 students from 17 USP degrees, like Medical Sciences, Dentistry, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine and others.
