Resumo: Nosso laboratório está envolvido com o estudo dos mecanismos pelos quais doenças, processos fisiológicos, como o envelhecimento, e fármacos alteram a função contrátil e estrutura das células musculares lisas vasculares (CMLVs), enfocando a influência exercida pelo tecido adiposo perivascular (PVAT) e o endotélio. Nosso interesse em especial é o de avaliar os mecanismos moleculares pelos quais fatores produzidos pelo PVAT regulam a função contrátil e o fenótipo de CMLVs em doenças metabólicas e durante o envelhecimento, bem como em resposta a fármacos. Para tal, utilizamos modelos experimentais de doenças, animais geneticamente modificados, cultura celular e avaliações in vivo e in vitro. Entre os métodos utilizados estão Western blotting, citometria de fluxo, PCR em tempo real, microscopia intravital, imunofluorescência e reatividade vascular.

Abstract: Vascular biology in metabolic and vascular diseases The Laboratory of Vascular Biology is involved in the study of how diseases, physiological process, such as aging, and drugs affect the contractile and structural functions of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), and especially the influence of perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) and endothelium in those morphological and functional aspects. Our main interest is to evaluate the molecular mechanisms by which PVAT-derived factors regulate the contractile function and the phenotype of VSMCs in metabolic diseases, aging, as well as in response to drugs. In order to address those questions, we use experimental models of diseases, genetically modified animals, cell culture and in vivo and in vitro assays.
