Resumo: Minha área de interesse envolve a busca de tratamentos eficazes para doenças em que há um sério comprometimento da microcirculação, dentre elas, o acidente vascular encefálico, o glioblastoma multiforme e doenças inflamatórias. Nosso foco tem sido o teste de nanomedicamentos, pois são compostos que apresentam muitas vezes propriedades úteis do ponto de vista terapêutico, como maior capacidade de atingir o alvo desejado
Abstract: Microcirculation (arterioles, venules, capillaries, lymphatic vessels) is of great importance to guide drugs to their targets, is itself the site of action of several drugs, and is fundamental for the drugs to leave the body. Abnormal changes on the microcirculation (enhanced leukocyte and platelet adhesion and migration, thrombus formation, reactive oxygen and nitrogen species formation, vascular permeability, among others) occur in several diseases that affect great part of the population in the world, such as, hypertension, stroke, cancer, inflammatory disease (multiple sclerosis, sepsis). This way, a continuing search for new drugs or drugs repositioning with focus on reverting or preventing microcirculation changes and then improving disease states is our goal. Lastly, we have turned our attention to nanodrugs (drugs with at least one of their dimensions at the nanoscale) that act on the microcirculation, mainly in the central nervous system (CNS), aiming to prevent or treat cerebral disease. In order to do that, our lab has used mainly the following experimental assays: fluorescence intravital microscopy, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, ELISA, Evans blue permeability assay, Boyden chamber-based cell migration
