Two Postdoctoral positions at Department of Microbiology, University of São Paulo

We are inviting application for two FAPESP-funded postdoctoral positions to study the mechanism and inhibition of multidrug exporters in ESKAPE pathogens, using structural biology and fragment-based drug discovery. This project is a collaboration between Prof Marko Hyvönen and Prof Andrea Balan, at the Department of Microbiology, University of São Paulo. The postholders will also have possibilities to work in Prof Marko Hyvönen’s laboratory in University of Cambridge, UK.

We are looking for candidates with significant expertise in structural biology, either crystallography or cryo-electron microscopy, ideally with membrane proteins, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications. A successful candidate would ideally have expertise in protein engineering and biophysical characterisation of proteins. Expertise in fragment-based drug discovery would be an advantage as would experience using expression hosts beyond E. coli.

Applications for these position should be sent in English to mhyvonen@usp.br as a single PDF file (max 5 pages) including a CV and an expression of interest letter, with details for 2-3 academic referees whom we can contact for recommendation.

Informal enquiries about the positions can be sent to Marko Hyvönen (mhyvonen@usp.br) and to Andrea Balan (abalan@usp.br). Further details of the groups can be found in their respective websites at https://hyvonen.bioc.cam.ac.uk and https://www.balangroup.org.

Deadline for applications is 28th February.
