Resumo: O laboratório tem como principal interesse o estudo de mecanismos de transformação celular mediados pelo papillomavirus humano (HPV) e o vírus do carcinoma de células de Merkel (MCPyV). Em primeiro lugar, o grupo analisa a dependência de linhagens celulares transformadas por HPV da maquinaria de reparo de dano ao DNA, visando descobrir novos alvos terapêuticos para doenças associadas a este vírus. Além disso, estudam o efeito da infecção por HPV na expressão e atividade de metaloporteinases de matriz e na via de sinalização por receptores tipo Toll. Finalmente, o grupo está realizando o primeiro estudo no Brasil que visa caracterizar variantes moleculares de MCPyV e sua relação com expressão de proteínas de polaridade celular em carcinomas de células de Merkel.
Abstract: The laboratory has as the main research interest the study of the mechanisms of cellular transformation mediated by human papillomavirus (HPV) and Merkel cell carcinoma polyomavirus (MCPyV). First, the group analyzes the dependence of HPV-transformed cell lines on DNA damage repair machinery aiming at identifying new therapeutic targets for diseases associated with infection by this virus. Furthermore, they study the effects of HPV infection on the expression and activity of matrix metalloproteinases and the Toll-like receptors signaling pathway. Finally, the group is conducting the first Brazilian study to characterize molecular MCPyV variants and their association with the expression of cell polarity proteins in Merkel cell carcinomas.
